Press ~ for console; the command to join a server via IP is "open <ipAddress>" like below if host player is assigned 192.168.1.5 address and the other player is trying to join. this probably wont work without port forwarding.
You should at least be able to get into a party together. You can queue as a group at that point or if one of you joins a server an arrow will appear next to their name in your party and you can click it to join their server.
