The Pioneer SX-X50 series has a much different sound then the SX-X80 series (and similar vintage amps), and the older series seems to work best with similar vintage speakers IMHO. The definition and soundstage of the 500 is unsurpassed in all of vintage audio, from 20Hz to 20KHz and well beyond. If you are driving a difficult speaker load, the 500 will not flinch.
